“ETHICS MATTERS” OVERVIEW

Ethics matters everywhere and always.  In the everyday as well as the once-in-a-lifetime events of human existence.  But especially in times of turbulence, it is important to be able to look to secure fundamental ethical principles and to know people of moral character.  This short session will aim to unpack what that means.

 THE PRESENTER

Dr. James E. (Jim) Read, Ph.D.-UCLA, 1988 is Executive Director of The Salvation Army Ethics Centre in Winnipeg, a Senior Policy Analyst for the Salvation Army's International Social Justice Commission in New York, and Associate Professor of Philosophy and Ethics at Booth University College.

Before coming to Winnipeg in 1982 to help establish Booth University College, Dr. Read served on the faculties of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Dr. Read has taught ethics courses and workshops and made presentations in Australia, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Denmark, England, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Kenya, Sweden, and the United States.  He provides ethics consultation widely and has written extensively for Salvation Army publications.  When Justice is the Measure, a book Dr. Read has co-authored with Commissioner M. Christine MacMilland and Dr. Don Posterski, was published in 2013.
